LaVerne was born November 10, 1939 in Ft. Lupton to Adophus Benjamin and Viola Elizabeth (Meyer) Howell. She was baptized into the name of the Triune God on December 17, 1939 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in the infant years of this congregation and she became a child of King of Kings, with whom she walked for the 73 years of life allotted to her.
LaVerne grew up in the Platteville area on a farm and attended the Platteville School. As a young woman she made a public confession of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in her confirmation at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Platteville in May of 1955.
After completing High School, LaVerne worked for many years as a telephone operator in Denver until she met and married Harold.
On September 14, 1962 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Platteville, LaVerne married Harold Carl Bohn and the two became “one flesh” as husband and wife for 47 years. They were blessed with one boy as a fruit of their marriage, Douglas. A second son, Carl was born later but died soon after birth.
After marriage LaVerne worked on the farm with Harold, growing corn, hay and pickles. They were one of the longest standing Western Maid pickle farmers in the area until 1984. LaVerne also worked at the Double Tree Restaurant in Platteville as a prep cook.
LaVerne loved cooking and canning, enjoyed making throw rugs from scraps of fabric and like to Polka dance with Harold.
LaVerne is survived by her son Douglas of Evans; one brother James Howell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandsons D.J. Bohn and Mark Riggins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At her home, in the afternoon of June 21, 2013 LaVerne had a diabetic attack, was revived by emergency responders and taken to the hospital. Laverne now rests in the everlasting arms of Jesus where she awaits the final resurrection to our heavenly home on the day of Christ’s promised return.
