

Leona Mae (Herrell) Smith was born in Stafford County, Kansas on September 4, 1921 to George and Cula (Hunter) Herrell. Her parents and grandparents were farmers on both sides. She was the second from the youngest of 11 children, 7 of which lived to adulthood.
She was married on July 14, 1945 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Paul Danule Smith. She raised three children. They lived in New Mexico then moved to Wichita, Kansas and then to Federal Way, Washington. In 1976, Paul passed away and Leona moved to live with her son and daughter in Colorado. She was able to watch her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren grow up. She was very proud of them.
Leona was survived by her daughter, Sharron Smith; two sons, Gary (Cheryl) and Danule Smith; sister, Sarah Lavina (Herrell) Wilcox of Denver; two grandchildren, Leona (Ben) Rood and Chris Smith; three great-grandchildren, Delila Smith, Nathaniel Rood and Rebekah Rood and much loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul and her parents.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 16 followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m. both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
