Leonard “Luke” Mizuno 88, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2016.
He was born to Jonai Mizuno and Toyo (Kurokawa) Mizuno on August 1, 1928 in Hershey, Nebraska. He lived in Hershey and attended Hershey schools until 1944 when he moved to Greeley with his family. He finished his junior year at Greeley High and then attended Gill High School, where he graduated.
He farmed the family farm until 1950 when he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he returned to farming and in 1959 he married Alice Arakawa, his wife of 57 years. In 1963 they quit farming and moved to Greeley. He did lawn maintenance and partnered with his brother Jim to start a lawn mower repair shop. In 1968 he sold his share to his brother and became a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Greeley. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service in 1988.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the vegetables with his neighbors, friends, and family. He was also an enthusiastic Bronco’s fan. He and his close friend Lloyd Carlson would often go out for coffee and conversation until he became very ill.
He is survived by his wife Alice, son Randy (Kim) and grandson Christofer and Granddaughter Laura all of Michigan. Leonard also has several nieces and nephews in Colorado, California, and Alabama. He was preceded in death by four brother and four sisters.
The family wants to thank Suncrest Hospice especially Tina, Emily, Suzanna and Dr. Siemay Lee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Greeley Buddhist Temple.
A Viewing will be held at the Allnutt Macy Chapel 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO between 9:00-11:00 A.M. on December 28, 2016, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M. A reception will immediately follow the memorial service and he will be interred at Linn Grove Cemetery at 2:00 P.M.
