

LuVerne Donald Hanson, 89, of Greeley, passed away March 22, 2017. LuVerne was born August 12, 1927 in Lanesboro, Minnesota to Edna and John Hanson. He graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1945.
LuVerne was drafted into the Army and served from 1945 - 1946 as a truck driver stationed at Fort Leavenworth and Ft. Riley. He then began his life long career with the Milwakee Road Railroad in Minnesota and South Dakota as an Electrician and Foreman.
He married LoRene Guericke in 1954. He later moved the family to Wyoming and retired in 1990 with the Burlington railroad in Guernsey. After LoRene passed away, Vern moved to Greeley to be closer to Kim's family. He went to everything his Grandsons, Andrew and Matt, were in. From plays, to sports (football, basketball, baseball) His grandsons were his pride and joy.
Vern had a passion for volunteering. He lived at Bonell Good Samaritan in an apartment. He was active at the Cozy Cornerstone, there every week. He was active at the church at Bonell where he was in the choir, ushered residents and helped with anything he was asked to do.
Many fun trips they took as senior, went to Canada on the rocky mountaineer and visited Palisade Peaches, New Mexico. Also had many senior luncheonsto various restaurants all over the area with the senior activities there at the Greeley Place and Bonell.
He was invited to join the Honor Flight Northern Colorado to Washington D.C. in Sept. 2009 which was very enjoyable and a privilege.
Vern played guitar and organ and loved to jitter bug dance.
Vern was a devoted husband, wonderful dad, patient and fun grandfather. He will be deeply missed, no matter who you were, Vern would have something to say and could put a smile on your face with his witty remarks. Vern was a golfer, enjoyed fishing, and watching the Broncos. He could fix anything you put in front of him.
Vern is survived by his daughter Kim Ritchie (Rick), two grandsons Andrew Ritchie (Elyse) and Matt Ritchie (Kim), four brothers Robert Hanson (Nora), John Hanson (Marlyn), Everett Hanson and David Hanson (JoAnn). He was preceded in death by his parents, wife LoRene Hanson and a son Kevin Hanson.
Memorial service Monday, March 27, 2017 at Bonell Good Samaritan Chapel-Borgmann Chapel.
