Melvin Prothe, 77, of Greeley, passed away August 4, 2014 at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born June 4, 1937 to Arnold and Martha (Wilkins) Prothe in Linn, KS. He married Katherine E. Wolf on September 1, 1962 in North Dakota.
Melvin has been a resident of Greeley since 1944. He graduated from Greeley High in 1955 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from UNC in 1963 after serving in the U.S. Army.
Melvin worked for State Farm for over 37 years at the Regional Office, retiring in 1995.
Melvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed wildlife and the outdoors, fishing and hunting, flying remote control airplanes, listening to country western music and spending time with his family and many good friends.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Prothe, Greeley, CO; daughter Karen (Paul) Sommer, Lakewood, CO; son, Brad Prothe, Colorado Springs, CO; siblings, Mildred (Dave) Thomas, Fredericksburg, VA; Lester Prothe, Titusville, FL; and Lorene (Bob) Steele, Greeley, CO; sister-in-law, Lea Prothe, Greeley, CO; and grandchildren Christine Prothe, Leah Sommer and Lauren Sommer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Leonard; and infant brother Marvin.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
