Mildred Lucille Herbst

She was born on Dec. 14, 1922 to Frank and Hazel (Tracy) Taggart in Galeton, Colo. Lucille, a former resident of Galeton and Eaton, lived in northern Colorado all her life. She graduated from Galeton High School in 1940. She married the love of her life, Harold Herbst, in 1944 in Kersey, Colo. In addition to raising five daughters, she spent most of her life as a dairy farmer’s wife. Lucille also served as the assistant food manager at Galeton Elementary School from 1975 – 1999 and substituted for another ten years.

In 1985, Lucille and Harold moved from their farm to Eaton, Colo. Lucille was very involved in the Galeton Community Church, and her community. She belonged to the Willy (Willing) Workers Extension Club and Galeton Ladies Aid. She was also a Galeton 4-H leader. Lucille was known for her beautiful yard and gardens; she applied her green thumb with her husband by volunteering to maintain the Benjamin Eaton Memorial. Lucille and Harold were honored for their many contributions to their community by serving as Grand Marshals of the 2011 Eaton Days Parade.

She is survived by her daughters; Pam (Greg) Springston, Fort Collins; Susan (Don) Gartman, Salt Lake City; Marcia Adams, Fort Collins; Kathy (Randy) Wolf, Ault; and Sheila (Jeff) Stranahan, Windsor; and by ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Frank and Ed Taggart, and two sons-in-law Hale Adams and Brion Newkirk.

Visitation will be from 5- 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the Allnutt Macy Chapel. Internment at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Gardens; services will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Galeton Community Church. A reception will follow the services.
