

Born on February 18, 1935, in Sharon Springs, Kansas, Myra was the daughter of John and Gladys (Vaughn) Peterson. She was raised in Colorado Springs and Penrose alongside her brother and sister, forming the strong family values that would guide her throughout her life.
On August 22, 1953, Myra married Louis Smith. They shared 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2001, building a life centered on love, family, and devotion. Together they raised three daughters.
Myra was a deeply caring and hardworking woman who dedicated much of her life to helping others. She opened her home as a nursing care residence, where she cared for eight elderly women. Later, she continued her nurturing work by providing daycare. She also volunteered in hospice care, offering comfort and kindness to those in their final stages of life. A talented seamstress, Myra generously shared her skills by sewing for others.
She and Louis cherished time spent camping, fishing, and enjoying the beauty of the mountains. Myra will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and the quiet strength with which she cared for those around her.
She is survived by her daughters, Georgia Hand (Ken) and Glenda Peterson; her grandchildren, Allison Ash, James Peterson, John Peterson V, and Jacob Peterson; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Peterson; her husband, Louis Smith; her daughter, Angel Ash; her sister, Geneva Radcliff and brother, Curtis Peterson.
Myra’s legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
