He joined the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Galveston, Texas for 5 years. He married Judith Helen Smith November 3, 1971. They had three sons during their marriage; Michael, Mark, and Matthew Hansen. They later divorced and he married Lila Wilson who later passed away. He later moved to Ault, Colorado with his stepdaughter and caretaker of many years Monica Martindale.
He was survived by his sons: Michael (Carolyn) Hansen of Ray City, Georgia, Mark (LaNae) Hansen of Wellsville, Utah, Matthew (Johanna) Hansen of Murrieta, California; grandchildren Kylee (Kaleb) Davis, Coty (Ashlyn) Hansen, Baylee(Daniel) Stevens, Cameryn Hansen; and three great grandchildren.
A private celebration of life will be held.
