Patty attended elementary school, junior high, and high school in Ault, Colorado. She was a 1955 graduate of Ault High School. She married David J. Farmer on Christmas Day, 1960, at the Ault First Baptist Church. The couple moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1960 where all of her children were born.
The family relocated to Leavenworth, Kansas in 1972 where she lived until 1993 when she moved back to Ault, Colorado.
Patty Farmer had a true servant’s heart. She served in many different roles during her time in Leavenworth, Kansas. An active member of the First Christian Church, she taught Sunday School, led Bible Studies and chaired various service committees. She was a member of the Christian Woman’s Club and was classroom “mom” for all three kids during their time in the Easton school district and even participated in the Monday Housewives bowling league for several years.
After moving back to Colorado in 1993, Patty was an integral part of the Ault community. As an active member of Living Hope Community Church (formerly the First Baptist Church), she led Bible studies, taught Sunday School, and volunteered at many community outreach events. She saw every person who came through the doors of the church as an opportunity to show God’s love and kindness in practical ways.
Patty also served at the Ault Senior Center for 28 years, over 16 of those as the coordinator. She planned, prepared and cooked countless meals there serving hundreds if not thousands of people. She was also involved with R.S.V.P. (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program.) In addition to crafts, reading, gardening, and serving her church and community, she enjoyed being a part of the Happy Hattitudes Red Hat Society. In 2012 she was honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshall of the Ault Fall Festival.
Patty loved her family and friends and was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite piece of technology was her GrandPad where her family would send her daily photos and videos. She loved sharing those memories with her friends.
Most important to Patty was her relationship with God, lived out in a vibrant and strong prayer life which she recorded in her prayer journal every day. If you asked for prayer, you can bet she was praying for you. She faithfully pursued the call on her life to live like, and for, Jesus, loving and serving others in every way she could. Patty succeeded. Her life reflected Jesus to the very end, remaining kind, generous, humble, and steadfast in her faith.
Her light and love will continue to shine, but she will be greatly missed by her family, friends, church, community and all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, David S. Farmer (Sarah), Matthew J. Farmer and Ruth R. (Farmer) Haugen (Steve), grandchildren, Stephanie (Farmer) Fricke (Ryan), Anthony Farmer (Tarin), Jennifer (Farmer) Oliver (Bobby), James Farmer (Ashley) and Samuel “Sammy” Haugen, great-grandchildren, Jacob Sasser, Emilyn Fricke, Lydia Farmer, Linah Fricke, J.D. Farmer, Kendall Fricke, Austyn Farmer and Hazel Farmer.
Patty is predeceased by her husband, David J. Farmer, parents, Jette & Viola Lightsey, sister, Doris (Lightsey) Cline, brother, Robert Lightsey, and an infant son.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Living Hope Community Church or the Ault Senior Center.
A celebration of life for Patty will be held Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM at First Lutheran Church, 402 Graefe Ave, Ault, CO 80610.
