Phillip Clayton Cecil, 84, of Fort Morgan, formerly of Greeley died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at his home. Phillip was born October 14, 1927 to Otto and Clara (Todd) Cecil in Barnesville, Colorado.
Phillip grew up on a farm in Gill, where he attended schools until 8th grade. He farmed row crops and was also a dairy farmer. On March 26, 1950 he married Margaret Marie Bopp in Greeley. He was a member of Greeley Baptist Temple and the past President of Gill Lions Club. He entered into the United States Air Force on September 30, 1947 working with heavy equipment. After his service with the U.S. Army Air Corp, Phillip worked as a heavy equipment operator at Bestway Concrete and Pink Wilson in Greeley.
Phillip enjoyed restoring cars, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He liked to tinker with clocks, watches and small engines. Phillip worked for Weld County School District 6 for 21 years. In 1987 he retired as shop foreman, from District 6. Phillip drove buses for the School District for many student activities. Due to Phillip’s heroic responses, he saved several children from a near fatal bus crash. On February 27, 1970 he received an award for his quick response.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Dale and wife Terri Cecil of Fort Morgan; Chihuahua, Jake; brother, William and wife Penny of Greeley; three grandchildren and their spouses, Anthony Cecil and wife Kristen of Fort Morgan, Heather Jensen and husband Todd of North Platte, Nebraska and Elizabeth Sawyer and husband David of Azle, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Schlagel of Ft. Morgan and Nathan Schafer and wife Natalie of West Jordan, Utah and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Claude and Richard and a sister, Ella Mae.
Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Friends may visit one hour prior to service. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
