Placida was born October 5, 1926 in Flatonia, Texas to Juan Rosas and Maria Hernandez. She grew up in and went to school in Flatonia until 5th grade, when she had to leave school and work at home on the farm. She was the youngest of 9 children, her sisters and brothers were Juan, Pablo, Antonia, Juanita, Chelo, Gregario, Lupe, and Senorina, who all have preceded her in death. Her dad passed away when she was 8 years old, she and her mom stayed on the farm and raised various crops and animals until 1945 then moved to San Antonio, Texas.
Placida worked at sewing factories making baby clothes and blue jeans, as well as the Salvation Army to support herself and her Mom. She was the caregiver for her mother until her mom passed away.
She married Cosme Lerma July 4th, 1953, both working in San Antonio until they moved to Colorado permanently in 1960. They worked for various farmers in the Eaton, Lucerne, and Greeley area.
Placida worked many years for Bayly Manufacturing and her last job was at Bonell Nursing home for 16 years as manager of the laundry department, a job she was very proud of and respected by the employees and patients. She had many stories of this job she loved to share especially going to work at 2AM and after her shift she would take communion to homebound parishioners.
Placida loved being busy and her beautiful yard was always full of roses, many other types of flowers, and a large garden. Her neighbors and friends admired her yard and she was happy to show it off and share the vegetables from her garden.
Cosme passed away March 27, 2002, at which time she retired from her job, and was active almost daily at her church, Our Lady Of Peace, going to mass every morning, singing in the choir, visiting people in nursing homes, or in their homes and doing whatever was needed for the church, until her health declined. At this time, she would faithfully watch the Pope and mass on television every day.
She is survived by her son, Saul and wife Darolie, grandchildren Nathaniel, Kelly, Tracy, Jason and spouses, and 10 great grandchildren.
