

Raymond H. Foos, 83, of Greeley died May 17, 2013 at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born December 26, 1929 in Ft Morgan, Colorado to George and Martha (Bernhardt) Foos. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church (St. John’s United Church of Christ) where he is still a member, having served as an Elder.
Raymond married Roline Anderson on October 23, 1951 at the First Covenant Church in Greeley, Colorado.
At a very young age, he, his older siblings and mother worked the sugar beet fields, thinning, hoeing and topping the beets. All of this was hand labor.
Raymond was drafted into the United States Army on May 25, 1951. He received basic training and schooling as a high speed radio operator at Camp Gordon, Georgia. On January 3, 1952, he was deployed to South Korea under the 101st Signal Corp attached to the 9th Corp where he continued as a high speed radio operator and switch board operator then later with the motor pool. While in Korea he received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze
Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Merit Unit Commendation. He was transferred to the Army Ready Reserves on May 23, 1953 and was honorably discharged from the Army on November 2 1956 with the rank of Corporal.
In January of 1954, the couple returned to farming northeast of Greeley, and moved to the Kersey-Kuner area in January 1957 where they farmed until November 1999 at which time they retired and moved to Greeley.
Raymond was successful in many aspects of agriculture. He served as a director of the Great Western Beet Growers Association – Greeley Local and was named to the Presidents High Quality Beet Growers Club for several years and became a member of the Great Western Sugar Company 10,000 pound club by virtue of the fact that his beet contract produced 10,000 pounds or more sugar per acre.
During the winter months he worked for the Rocky Mountain Seed Company of Denver and also the Weld County Extension Office.
Raymond enjoyed bowling having had at least one perfect 300 game, golfing having shot two holes in one, fishing and especially attending many activities that his sons and grandchildren participated in. He especially enjoyed going to the Platte Valley High school football games.
He is survived by his wife Roline; three sons Stanley (Bonnie) of Windsor, Douglas (Gayle) of Aurora and Steven (Lisa) of Kersey. Five grandchildren, Crystal (Jason) Miwa of San Antonio, Texas, Derrek (Crystal) Foos of Sterling, Zech(Zella) Foos of Greeley, Seth (Alicia) Foos of Kingsland, Georgia, and Chad Foos of Denver. Five great grandchildren, Jackson Miwa of San Antonio, Texas, Kyle Foos of Sterling, Mae Foos of Greeley and Derek and Olivia Foos of Kingsland, Georgia. Sisters Juanita Flot and Betty (Bill) Roth of Greeley; Patty (Ron) Cook of Platteville; brothers Everett, Gene (Peggy) and Kenneth of Greeley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Robert and brother-in-law Paul Flot; sisters-in-law Vera, Dorothy and Robbie Foos; a nephew Troy Cook and niece Stephanie Foos.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at St. John’s United Church of Christ. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
