A true Colorado native, Dick was born in Windsor, Colorado on October 17, 1935 to Alexander Weiderspon and Emma (Ehrlich) Weiderspon who preceded him in death.
He was raised on a family farm by Timath and graduated from Timnath High School in 1954. Dick excelled in High School sports which earned him the nickname of “Wheaties”. After graduating from High School he continued to farm and milk cows. Later in life Gloria and Dick started a beef cow herd continued farming and ranching with his three children until the time of his retirement.
In 1957, Dick married the love of his life, Gloria (Ackerson) Weiderspon at the Fort Collins Lutheran Church. Dick remained a member of Trinity Lutheran Church until his passing. Of the many hats he wore over the years, the one that brought him the most joy was being a father. He and Gloria raised three children and cherished memories of teaching them about life on the farm. Driving the tractor, working his cow/calf herd, and attending their children sporting events were just a few of his favorite things. Dick also found great pride in seeing all three of his children graduate from Colorado State University.
Though farming was his passion, Dick began working for Great Western Sugar in 1957 and stayed there for eighteen years. In 1959, he was part of the team that built the first Timnath Fire Department and also voluteered there for twelve years. Over time, he came to be well-known by many. That, combined with his farming know-how, led him to a sales role for Dekalb corn seed and closer to his original love of farming. During his retirement years, he occupied his time working as a car runner for Dellenbach Motors.
When he wasn't fishing or panning for gold, he invested his time on the Timnath Planning Board, the Board of Directors for Farm Bureau, and the Fort Collins chapter of the Young Farmers Association. He was passionate about discussing farming methods and finding new ways to encourage young people to go into farming.
All of his children stayed active in the agriculture field. He is survived by all of his children: Rhonda Weiderspon-Boyd (Ellis) of Alder, Montana; Dale Weiderspon (Karen) of Snyder, CO; and Dr. David Weiderspon DVM (Kathie) of Sidney, NE.
He left behind his lovely bride of 59 years, Gloria Weiderspon; He was blessed with and survived by seven grandchildren: Mark Boyd, Raquel Boyd-Schenk (Chance), Derek Weiderspon (Mikaela), Luke Weiderspon (Wife to be Mariah Connor), Matthew Weiderspon, Zachary Weiderspon, and Austin Weiderspon (future bride to be Hannah Eisert). He was also blessed with one great-grandchild: Logan Weiderspon.
