

Rodney D. Markley, 58, of Greeley, died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born October 12, 1954 in Greeley to Edward and Elsie (Holman) Markley. Rodney married his high school sweetheart Linda Kay Vasquez on February 23, 1974 at First Baptist Church of Greeley.
Rodney attended school in Greeley and graduated from Greeley West High School in 1973. After graduation he started working as a mechanic for Edward’s Chevrolet. While at Edward’s, he enjoyed working with his father and brother Ed. He then worked for several years at Weld County Garage.
He then decided to live out his dream and became a partner with friends and family and operated the Marina at Steamboat Lake. His occupation at that time became fulltime fisherman. Later he returned to the automotive industry on a part time basis prior to early retirement at which time his skills were frequently used by friends and family.
Above all, Rodney loved the time together with his family and extended family, but his pride and joy were his grandchildren. He was the love of Linda’s life.
Rodney is survived by his wife Linda; a daughter Brandi Jo (Polo) Markley – Martinez of Evans, granddaughter Sedona Rayne Martinez and grandson Aiden Maxwell Martinez all of Evans; his mother Elsie Markley of Greeley; sister Vicky Berg of Windsor; brothers Ed Markley, his twin brother Roger (Lynette) Markley and Bill (Joanie) Markley all of Greeley; mother and father in law Wanda and Vern Vasquez of Cheyenne; brothers-in-law Mike (Sally) Vasquez of Cheyenne, John (Sandra) Sorrel Horse of Cheyenne, James (Micki) Sorrel Horse of Tennessee; sisters-in-law Carol Murphy and Diana (Kenneth) Berens all of Greeley; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father and brother-in-law Jeff Murphy.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 7 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Stoddard Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Greeley 10th Avenue and 11th Street.
