Sandy was born on October 13, 1943, to Frederic and Freida Bauer. Sandy attended school at UNC's College school, graduating in 1961. Soon after her graduation Sandy married John McCarty on June 23d, 1961. The two moved to Denver where John began his professional career and Sandy assumed the duties of a homemaker. On July 2, 1962, they welcomed a daughter, Lori, to their family. Sandy enjoyed very much being a mother and homemaker. On August 4, 1967, Sandy gave birth to their son Bryan, filling out the family. During their 64 years of marriage, they built a beautiful life together and cherished raising their family.
Sandy was a great saver which helped the family purchase their first home in Westminster, Colorado. This presented the opportunity for her to develop a nice flower garden. After both children were of age to be in school Sandy took a part-time job at the Rocky flats nuclear site until 1975 when the opportunity surfaced for the family to move back to Greeley where her husband, John, continued his career at Burris Company as Operations Manager. The couple had a custom home built in Greeley with a large area for another beautiful flower garden. People would make sure they walked by each day to admire her handy work. In 2003 John and Sandy signed a contract for the construction of their retirement home. Once completed, Sandy put her gardening skills to work and again built a beautiful flower garden that was featured in Greeley's Tour of Gardens program.
Sandy joined two bowling leagues and became an accomplished bowler. Over the years the family did a lot of traveling and just camped out, eventually upgrading to a motor home where they traveled to many states appreciating the great USA.
Sandy is survived by her husband John McCarty, her two children, Lori Veenendaal and Bryan McCarty, her four grandchildren, Landen McCarty, Austin McCarty, Whitney Veenendaal-Schriener, and Aimee Veenendaal, her great grandchildren Weston Veenendaal and Makai McCarty, and her sister Nancy Bauer-Steele.
Sandy was proceeded in death by her mother Freida Simpson, her father Frederic Bauer, and grandson Wesley Veenendaal.
A celebration of life will be held September 6, 2025 by invitation for family and close friends at Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel.
