Steve grew up in the town of Evans, graduating from Greeley West in 1970. He may have grown up in town, but Steve was born a cowboy. For a few years he rode saddle bronc and bulls, until he settled down a bit, became an electrician, and raised his family. He lived outside of Eaton on a farm until 2001. By day he was an electrician with the IBEW Local #68 where he worked with his father and a number of lifelong friends. By evening and weekend he was a farmer and cattleman. In 1987, he was a founding partner of Rocky Mountain Power and Control.
In 2001, Steve moved with his wife Chris and youngest daughter Stephanie to a ranch near Briggsdale to live out his dream of owning a cattle ranch. In 2013, Steve and Chris opened up Crow Valley Liquor store. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, taking trips from British Columbia to Florida, but Saratoga Lake in Wyoming remained his favorite.
Steve loved the land and his cattle, hunting and fishing, and his dogs, but most of all he loved his family. He was an amazing husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife Chris of 32 years; his daughters Kelly (James) Johnston, RHP; Dr. Jody (Rob) Norris, DVM; Lt Col Cody (Scott) Fowler, Esq., and Stephanie (Tyler) Denton, RN; his grandchildren Garrett & Dillan Johnston, Audrey Denton, and Shelby, Auggie, Hunter, and Cavalry Norris; his sister Marlene Hale and his nephews Chad, Heath, Dusty, and Corey, and his dogs Jill, Jake, and Buddy.
