

Susie Ruby Martinez, 86, of Greeley, entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at North Colorado Medical Center. Susie was born on March 16, 1927 in Capulin, Colorado to Petro and Constancia (Solano) Lucero.
Susie attended school in Ojito, Colorado. In Susie’s younger years she worked for the family logging company. After relocating to Greeley in 1957 she did agricultural work, housekeeping, served cafeteria lunches for Weld County School District Six and worked at local packing plants. Her greatest work was being a homemaker and caregiver for her eleven children.
Susie was a woman of great faith and prayer. She attended church at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greeley. Susie was a member of Los Ancianos at the Rodarte Center, the Our Lady of Peace Women’s Group and was also a Eucharistic Minister. Susie also served many meals for Our Lady of Peace parish members. Susie participated annually in the 16th of September Celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She made her Cursillo in the early 1990’s.
Susie’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crafts, word search puzzles, traveling, dancing and music. Susie was an avid Bingo player and always enjoyed spending time at the casinos. Susie had a good sense of humor, a wonderful laugh and a beautiful smile. She was very independent and well-known in the Greeley community. Susie was a great baker, she loved making tortillas and her special cookies for all family events.
Susie is survived by her children, Priscilla Martinez of Evans, Martha (Delfino) Maldonado of Greeley, Joyce Sandoval of Greeley, Sally Martinez (Juan Perez) of Plainview, Texas, Barbara Martinez of Greeley, Frances Martinez (Robert Lopez) of Greeley, Manuel Orlando Martinez of of Greeley, Jim (Juanita) Martinez of Greeley, Leroy (Pam) Martinez of Greeley, Arnold (Teresa) Martinez of Greeley and Casey (Caroline) Martinez of Greeley; two sisters, Maria Ida Sisneros of Thornton and Clara Lucero of Monte Vista, Colorado; two step-sisters, Perfy Vargas of Monte Vista and Angel Gomez of Capulin; one step-brother, Joe Martinez of Denver; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Evelyn Martinez and Leonard Martinez; sister, Elsie Rojas; half-brother, Joe Ortiz; granddaughter, Antoinette Maldonado; two great-grandsons, Amadeo Vasquez-Rizo and Gerardo De La Cruz.
Visitation will be held 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
