Teddy Jay Schwartz, born on February 2, 1951, to Mary Jo and Robert Schwartz, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, with his family by his side. Family was always important to Ted, keeping him close to his roots in northern Colorado.
Growing up in Fort Collins, Ted embraced his German heritage along with his younger sister, Patty and younger brother Bobby. Family gatherings were never dull, always full of love, laughter and jokes.
Ted started a family of his own after meeting his beloved wife Kathy through a mutual friend. With a little persistence and charm, Ted convinced Kathy to elope in Las Vegas on October 10, 1975. Through the nearly 50 years of marriage, Ted and Kathy settled in their home in Severance, CO and raised three children, Laurie, Michael, and Mark. Memories were made during family road trips and at the dinner table every night.
Driven by his deep commitment to support his family, Ted was a hardworking man known for being one of the first ones to show up to work in the morning. He followed in his father, Robert’s footsteps, driving trucks across the country and locally in Colorado, eventually retiring from Connell Resources, formerly Loveland Excavating Company. Throughout his career Ted built friendships with his coworkers that made them feel more like family.
Ted enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, “getting good ones” with four-legged family, Wrinkles, Wrigley, Tank, Dakota, Toby, and Harley; frying bacon on Sunday mornings; watching women’s softball on TV; testing his taste buds with salsa as hot as you can make it; sipping a cold beer with just the right amount of tomato juice; satisfying his sweet tooth; and cruising in his muscle cars.
Ted will be remembered for his big heart, loyalty, and the way he showed everyone he deeply cared. It’s no surprise Ted was affectionately referred to as a big teddy bear. Ted’s legacy lives on in the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the memories cherished by all who knew him.
Ted joins his father, Robert; mother, Mary Jo Schwartz; son-in-law, Eric Hatch, and many other loved ones in heaven. Ted is survived by his wife, Kathleen Schwartz; daughter, Laura Hatch; son, Michael (Kimberly) Schwartz; son, Mark Schwartz; sister, Patty (Robert) Schwindt; and brother, Bob (Krista) Schwartz.
A celebration of Ted’s life will be held at Allnutt Funeral Service – Drake Road Chapel, 650 W. Drake Rd., Fort Collins, CO 80526, on October 4th at 11am. All are welcome to gather, cherish memories, and share stories to find comfort through laughter and love, while honoring Ted’s legacy.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Larimer County Humane Society, in care of Allnut Funeral Services.
