Virginia Schmitz

Virginia’s family moved to Nebraska City, NE in 1938, where she attended catholic grade and high school. From a young age, Virginia always had a dream of becoming a singer and took private voice lessons. After high school graduation in 1951, she moved to Omaha to sing advertisements for a radio station. Later in life she eventually found her calling of being an Employment Agency Specialist. She was proud to help people of all ages find a job they were passionate about. Virginia’s career was a sense of pride, but her greatest sense of accomplishment came from the family she raised. She was blessed with a large and loving family. Virginia married Alvin Antone Schmitz on March 1, 1952, in Nebraska City. In 1960 they moved the family to Greeley, CO. Together they had 6 amazing children, boasting one set of twins! Virginia taught all her children the virtues of patience, kindness, and manners. She hoped that these traits would continue down her family line, passing to new generations. Virginia’s love and compassion did not end with the members of her family. She was a devout Catholic woman who loved all of God’s creations. She loved her patio flowers and would welcome the local birds and squirrels in her yard with a tasty snack. Virginia enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and cheering on the Broncos and Nuggets. She loved her family, friends, and community deeply, only slightly more than her love for coffee and dark chocolate truffles.

Virginia is survived by her brother; Jim Kangieser, her children; Larry Schmitz (Michelle), Judy Schmidt (Eric), Steve Schmitz, Tony Schmitz (Maria), Jane Roat (Rusty), Joan Hohenshelt (Gary), 27 Grandchildren and 37 Great Grandchildren.

Virginia is proceeded in death by her parents; Bernard and Mary Kangieser, sisters; Margie, Connie, Mary, Dorothy, Lee, brothers; Bernie, Ken, husband; Alvin Antone Schmitz, grandchildren Gregory Godby, Marc and Zac Schmitz.

Services will be held beginning May 18, with a 5:00 pm Rosary at Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel in Greeley, CO; May 19, 11:00 Mass at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Greeley CO; followed by a private burial May 23 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver CO.
