

Dick was born on March 1, 1935 in Pueblo Colorado. His parents were James and Toy Marie Jamieson. He graduated from Pueblo Central High School in 1953 and was a member of the first Colorado High School All-State Band. He studied music at Colorado State College, which is now the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). He served in the U.S. Army in 1958 and 1959 and was a member of the Army National Guard for many years. After completing his initial military service period, he was the principal clarinet player in the El Paso, Texas symphony. He also taught music in the Fort Collins School District in the early 1960s. In 1967, he become a music professor at UNC, where he specialized in teaching clarinet and other wind instruments for 27 years. Dick loved playing and teaching music and was the manager of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra for 30 years. He often performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and many other local music groups like Kreme of the Krop and the John Mills Orchestra. His legacy will be remembered by the countless number of his students who went on to become great music educators in schools nationwide. Some of his students went on to perform in prestigious positions such as the principal clarinetist for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Houston Symphony.
Dick loved kids and teaching kids. After his retirement he continued to teach private lessons and volunteered to help teach music in the Greeley School District. He loved his wife and family and was very proud to teach three of his grandkids how to play the clarinet and saxophone. Christmas was a special time at the Jamieson household when Dick would organize family band after a Christmas dinner. During this time, Dick and his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids would get together to play Christmas carols on various instruments. He will be missed by the music community in Colorado and by his family and many friends. His gift of love and music will continue for many generations to come.
Dick is survived by the love of his life, his wife Dolores, and his children; Steve Jamieson, Greg Jamieson, Denise McMurren, and Kirk Jamieson. He and Dolores have six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Jamieson.
A celebration of his life will be scheduled and announced at a future time and date. Cards and wishes for his family can be sent to Allnutt Funeral Services. Please don’t send flowers. Instead, make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. Dick was passionate about finding a cure for this terrible disease.
