William Valentine Romey Jr.

He was born on July 27, 1938 in Tucson, AZ to William V. Romey Sr. and Blanche Gallagher Romey. When Bill was three months old, his family moved to Colorado. He attended elementary school and Jr. High at St. Peter's Catholic School. From the time he was 12, Bill worked with his Dad in the water softener business. In high school, Bill attended Greeley High School and graduated in 1956. After graduating, he joined the Marines with friends on the buddie plan. When he returned from the Marines, he resumed working with his Dad at the Frostop Drive Inn, which his Dad owned. He later worked at McDonald's Garage. During this time, Bill married his wife, Jane Thrutchley, on September 3, 1970. Together they had three children, George, Michelle, and Amy.

Bill worked for the security at North Colorado Medical Center for seven years, then at Day Surgery until his retirement. He finished his second retirement by working as an operator answering phones until May of 2013.

Religion always remained a priority to Bill throughout his life. He was a devout Catholic and when he attended St. Peter's Catholic Church, he was an usher and a small group leader. During his time with St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, he was a Sacristan and he delivered Communion services two days a week up until his health failed.

Bill was a member of the Marine Corps League, 4th Degree Knight, and Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed Notre Dame Football, and loved watching the Broncos.

Bill was loved by many, and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Jane Romey; children, George (Debby) Romey, Michelle Cline, Amy (Jeremy) Yost; grandchildren, Michael (Felicia) Romey, Amanda Cline, Missy (Michael) Reed, Matthew (Hannah) Yost, Joshua Yost, Sophie Romey, and Aubree Romey; and great-grandchildren, Mackenzy and Dawson Romey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Blanche Romey; step-mother, Hazel Jackson; and sisters, Mary Corbin, Barbara Bonham and Debby Cullison.

A Visitation for Bill will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634. A Recitation of the Rosary will occur Friday, February 7, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 915 12th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80631. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. also at St. Peter's Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
