Yvonne "Vonnie" Best

Yvonne “Vonnie” Best, 89, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Greeley. Yvonne was born at home in Stanton, Nebraska on January 14, 1923. After graduating from Stanton High School, she went to work in the Stanton County Courthouse before moving to a new job in Omaha, Nebraska. Yvonne was married to Bud Best in 1947. They lived in Albion and Norfolk, Nebraska before moving to Greeley in 1957.

Vonnie had three children: Judy and John of Greeley and Sue of Aurora. Before returning to work at the University of Northern Colorado bookstore from 1976-1996, Yvonne was active in Faculty Dames and all of her children’s organizations and activities. After retiring from UNC in 1996, Yvonne enjoyed the company of friends and family, including grandchildren, Sarah (Ken) Sasaki, Adam and John Tormey and great-grandchildren, Emmaline and Samuel Sasaki.

Yvonne is preceded in passing by her parents, Ray and Alice Johnson of Stanton, Nebraska and her brother, Loren Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by daughters, Judy Tormey and Sue (Les) McCarroll, son John Best and sisters, Arllys Hansen of Stanton, Nebraska and Barbara Henry of Reno, Nevada.

Memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church UCC in Greeley on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
