

Alton “Al” Counard, 82, Green Bay, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2011, unexpectedly while pursuing his love of bird hunting. He was born December 28, 1928, in Green Bay, to the late Vital and Athalie (LaViolette) Counard. Al graduated from East High School and joined the Naval Reserves. He married the love of his life, Farrell Kurszewski on June 30, 1951. Al was a devoted father and loving husband, his kindness and willing to lend a helping hand defined who he was.
Al was a firefighter for the Green Bay Fire Department for 29 years. Throughout his career, Al was respected by his crews for his fairness. He was known as Cooney by his coworkers and retired as Captain on January 9, 1984.
Al’s love for nature and the outdoors led him to be an avid fisherman and hunter. In his later years he pursued power walking and having lunch with his “buddies” at Aurora Hospital. Al also enjoyed watching sports.
Al is survived by his daughter, Susan Counard, Appleton; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Farrell; his parents; long time friend, John Davis; and other relatives and friends.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Allouez Mausoleum Chapel, 2121 Riverside Dr., Green Bay, from 11:00a.m. until 1:00p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated at Allouez Mausoluem Chapel on Wednesday, at 1:00p.m. Schauer & Schumacher Funeral Home is assisting the family 920-432-4841.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in memory of Al.
