Barbara Joan Bergen

Barbara was born in Parkersburg, IN on January 31, 1934, the daughter of Lloyd Ancil and Artiabelle (Wilshire) Zachary. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School “Class of 1952”.

Barbara worked at DePauw University as an administrator in the university mailing department for 24 years, retiring in 1999. She attended Greencastle Christian Church and was a former member and served as an elder of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Tri Kappa, Eastern Star, and a 25-year member of the Wally Byam Airstream Club, having served as an international officer.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, John Phillip Bergen on September 9, 2025, and her parents.

Barbara is survived by her children Michael (DeeDee) Bergen, Theresa (Tom) Wade, and Polly (Bill) Shuee; five grandchildren Graham (Erin) Shuee, Mac (Kayt) Shuee, Erin Bergen, Chloe (Jason) Stephan, Leah (Justin) Diaz; and eight great-grandchildren Eleanor Shuee, Louise Shuee, Mya Shuee, Millie Shuee, Crue Stephan, Rowyn Stephan, Presley Diaz, and Emmersyn Diaz

Barbara’s request was for private family services following cremation. The Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
