Stan was born on April 5, 1948 in Greencastle. The third of three sons of Harold and Helen (Wa1lace) Ryland. His parents, a brother Michael and a granddaughter Oliva preceded him in death.
He married Sharen (Finchum) Ryland on July 28, 1968 and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Scott of Indianapolis and Craig of Belleville, granddaughter Bella and a great granddaughter Londyn. He is also survived by a brother Richard Ryland (Sue) of Greencastle.
Stan graduated from Fillmore High School in 1966 and Purdue University in 1973 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. While still attending college, he began working in the engineering department at Public Service Indiana — now Duke Energy. Stan worked twelve years at Public Service Indiana where he was promoted to a Project Engineer. He then changed direction and joined his father in law in the family drainage business. During the next twenty seven years, Stan installed millions of feet of drain tile mostly on farms in Hendricks, Putnam and Owen Counties. Stan sold this business in 2006 and planned to retire. However, opportunity knocked once again. He acquired his Real Estate Brokers license and began working for Negotiations, Inc. a right of way acquisition company based in Indianapolis. This work, which he truly loved took him all over the southern two thirds of Indiana where he met many people and made many great friends.
Stan attended the Stilesville Christian Church and also belonged to the Belleville Masonic Lodge. Stan joined the Danville Jaycees in 1973 and served as President during 1975-76 year. In 1982 the Danville Jaycees presented Stan with the highest individual award that any Jaycee could receive —A Jaycee International Senatorship.
He served on the Hendricks Power Board of Directors from 1994 until he retired in 2024.
He was appointed to the Hendricks County Drainage Board by the county commissioners in 2006 and served on that board until 2024. Stan enjoyed gardening (giving away much of his produce), fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
