Gary Leon Thompson

Gary Leon Thompson, 83, of Greencastle, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Born March 11, 1941 in Terre Haute the son of Esten Cleveland and Nettie Pauline (Lacy) Thompson. He was a graduate of Gersmeyer High School in Terre Haute. Gary retired from IBM in 1987. He had also owned and operated G & M Small Engine Repair for several years. He was a member of the Putnam County Coin Club and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Gary played the accordion, square danced, loved to hunt mushroom, pheasant and quail and loved his cats. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of almost 50 years Kay A. (Sutherlin) Thompson; son Michael R. Thompson; sister and brother-in-law Carolyn (Allen) Chadwick and great grandson Aiden Payne. Gary is survived by his daughter Sherry (Ralph) Rogers; grandchildren Angie (Jason) Brewer, Brandy (Brady) Biddle, Autumn (Austin) Payne, and Michael R. Thompson Jr; great-grandchildren Jasmine, Crosby, Elliott, Elijah, Levi, Macy, Eli, and Ellie, and great great-grandchildren Everett and Dylan. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until time of service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Gary to the Humane Society of Putnam County P.O.
