I was so sorry to learn of the passing of your mother, she was one of my greatest childhood memories, from family suppers, when my sister and I would ride our bikes to the home of her parents and Marilyn, to the times we stayed there, played in the creek, played school (she was always the teacher), and so much more. Julie, Angela, Steven & Rachelle: Joyce has always been a very special lady.  I remembered spending the night with you Julie and all the fun we had.  During the last year or so, Joyce would feel in for us at our monthly euchre club and it was so much fun having there.  She was one of a kind.  I'm not sure if I'm going to make it to the funeral home tonight and I will be out of town tomorrow morning.  Please, know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Dear Jerry, Jack, Julie & family,
Praying for God to have His loving arms around you all today (& days following) and send His Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to comfort you.  Joyce was the best Sunday School teacher and I learned a lot in her class, about the Bible, about God, and about a personal relationship with Jesus.  I always loved seeing your mom's smiling face whenever I saw her through the years, and loved her hugs as well.  You know you all have a part of her in you with all your wonderful big smiles.  Yes, we will miss her on earth, but will have a grand reunion in Heaven!  I can hear the song, "Thank you for Giving to the Lord" playing now; and millions lining up to tell Joyce thank you; I will be one of them.  Love you all!  And will continue to pray. I always keep a list of the five coolest people in my life.  Joyce has been on that list since the day I met her.  She was one of, if not the most Christ like person I ever met...

We were sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother and wish we could be there with you. Joyce and Norman were good friends of ours, very special couple.

I send my deepest sympathy to all of you at the passing of your Mom.  Joyce was always such a kind and loving person.  I always remember her taking Cathy & I to Bible School and we sang church songs all the way there and back. I always remember her big smile whenever I happen to run into her through the years.  she was very special!  May god hold you all in his loving arms and ease your greif.

~Tonight I am going to write a different kind of LoVe note....When my sweet Mom, Bonnie Jean Petrytus, married my Dad, Max Eugene Zaring...she moved from Nebraska to west central Indiana....Mt. Meridian to be exact. My sweet Mom came here with all she had...to start a new life. The first person to reach out to her was Joyce Boatright Custis. She was married to Norman, who was my Dad's BESTest friend........and Joyce became my Mom's BESTest friend as well. Growing up, the Custis family was my family, just as much as my blood related one. Norman and Joyce had three sons, before they had their much anticipated babygirl, Julie Mae. My Mom had two sons, before I came along and a few years after Jake completed our family circle...Joyce and Mom were pregnant at the same time, both wanting babygirls desperately :) This way just a bit before technology could tell ya what you were havin' :) so when I was born in May, Joyce said she just knew she would have ANOTHER BOY! Thank the Good LORD she was wrong...cause Julie Mae was born in September, and was my BESTest friend all through my childhood, and beyond. Our parents played cards almost every Saturday night. Dad and Norman would think up games to entertain the boys...once Norman offered up $5 to the first one "dumb enough" to swallow an egg, whole. Yep, Little Bobby Joe JUST couldn't help himSELF, and was sick for the rest of the night...much to Norman & Dad's delight. Jules and I were "way smarter," than the boys, and entertained ourselves...AND everyone else... with our two girl act of "The Wizard of Oz"...all along our parents and the boys (because they were forced/bribed?) watched us EVERY single time...I think we probably gave that performance about 10 times a year...:) At Christmas time Joyce and my Mom would gather us kids all around the organ...as my Mom played Christmas carols, and Joyce led us in singing...with the most beautiful voice. One year we all went camping/fishing in Canada at Lake Of The Woods, and early on Julie and I got in trouble for talking to a stranger, and was confined to the campsite...for the rest of the two week vacation! Our Moms made us peel hundreds of pounds of potatoes throughtout those two weeks on the off chance that the "menfolk" would come back empty handed from fishin' ALL day long! Joyce always treated me like I was another daughter to her...she even felt the need to tell me to "dry up" when she thought I was outta control..(I know what 'ya all are thinkin' about right now...."Not THE Angel, Becky Lynn, right?!")....I had heard her tell all the boys, and Jules the same thing...so, I knew she LoVeD me too! She came faithfully EVERY year to the Beef Show, at the Putnam County Fair, to watch my brothers and I show our calves. She was one of people who sat in the crowd with my Mom, whispering: "Smile Becky!" everytime I led my steer or heifer around the ring. She knew as everyone else knew I was WAY too busy tryin' to hold onto my calf to worry about smilin'...Sweet Joyce had a strong FAITH in GOD, and she lived her life serving HIM. One of her favorite verses in the Bible was Romans 8:28 We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love HIM. She, along with Norman, and my Mom, are the three people who led me to God. It is because of those three wonderful blessings that I was baptized. What a gift they gave ME! Thank you!...Joyce went home...to Heaven...today to be with her LoVe, Norman, her son Jeff, and all her friends...and family...who went before her. When I first heard the news from my daughter, Kristin Danielle...a chill ran through me...but, THEN, just as fast a warm sense of peacefulness. She is where she belongs. I was saddened to hear of Joyce's passing.  She was a kind Christian woman who reminded me very much of my own mother.  We enjoyed the visits we had with she and Norman in Florida and Indiana.

Angie and I will always have a special place in hearts for Joyce. She was like family to us. She raised one of the greatest families that I know. We have a deep respect for them all.

Joyce was always so dear to us....She loved our girls like they were her own grandchildren and was always ready to help out. We are so sorry for the family at their loss, but know that Joyce is rejoicing in heaven.

Growing up in Fillmore, daughter of Stanley F. Sears and Dorothy...Joyce Boatright was my idol.  She was beautiful, gentle, caring and a wonderful friend for many years.  Our parents used to "get together" often and share meals and friendship!  I was in class with Marilyn and loved her too!  Know the goodness of your Mother, Grandmother, G-Grandmother Joyce Boatright Custis touched and encouraged many lives through her years here on earth...

Sorry to hear about the passing of your mother.  I will always remember both your Mom and Dad as very special people. I am so sad to hear the news about Joyce. I have always loved this lady and thought a lot of her. She will be dearly missed by all. I know Heaven is rejoicing in her arrival. Our love and prayers go out to the entire Custis Family.

 I am so very sorry for the loss of Joyce.  She was a lady in love with the Lord.  I learned to appreciate her many years ago when I first met her at GCC then when I came to Fillmore CC I loved her even more for her faith and commitment.

I know that she will be sorely missed by you and the extended family as well as all members of FCC.

Please accept my prayers for you and know that I will be thinking of all of you these next several days.  I will be out of town from Thursday until Sunday evening so will not be able to attend the visitattion or services.

Joyce was more than just an ordinary woman.  She could light a room with her smile that was always on her face.  Her love for others was always pouring out of her as well as her love for her Savior.  She was a shinning example of what a Proverbs 31 woman is supposed to be.  You will be sadly missed Joyce by my family.
