I was a classmate (81) and teammate of Mikes. On the field, whether on offense or receiving a kickoff, Mikes number is who I looked for to block for me! I could count on him to clear the way and open a window.  The way Mike played the game reminded me of Dick Butkus. Mike was part of some of my best memories in sports and life that I will still tell and continue to re-live. 
As time went by, Mike and I would cross paths and talk about our careers and our families. My son Drew had the pleasure of playing football for Mike and Drew developed a great respect for him! 
From our early years on the field to his last day, 
Mike continued to open windows and knock down doors for those who played for him and for his 
students. Mike impacted the lives of so many.  
For the whole Meyer family, my heart hurts for all 
of you and our prayers for peace and comfort 
continue. 



Brenda, Family, and Extended Family,
It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Mike.  I knew Mike from the time that he was 3 years old and although we had a casual relationship I have enjoyed watching him grow as as a man.
Certainly working with his father for many years put me in a position to watch Mike progress through youth and assume an assistant position in baseball, and for a time lead the program at DePauw, go on to Ohio Northern as football coach, and eventually back to "home" here in Greencastle with GHS.  Mike was quite successful as a football coach in Greencastle, and he was conscientious  and influential as an English teacher as well.  Mike's brothers and sister all looked up to him and the Meyers kids kept a tight bond and will continue to do so; they will sustain Brenda and family as it is their way of "being".  He gave a lot to many and will be missed by many.

I couldn't have asked for a better BIL, a more loving or devoted husband for my sister or a prouder or dedicated father for my nieces and nephews.  I am grateful that God brought Mike into mine and my families lives.  I am honored to have called Mike my BIL but all these years he is the brother I didn't have.  We are are lucky to have had Mike in our lives and all of our lives are more enriched for having known Mike.

Thank you for everything Coach. I will miss you and with every fiber of my being anytime there’s an obstacle in my way I will keep pushing. You were a good husband, mentor, father, coach, and even a better freind.

I remember playing football with Mike our freshman year. He just knocked an offensive lineman on his butt and after the play the referee told us to tone it down a little bit. Mike looked at him and said, “What do you want us to do, play patsy with them?”
The referee threw a flag and called a penalty on Mike for “unsportsmanlike conduct “ and marched off the yardage. Mike just looked at him and said nothing. The next play, he hit the guy even harder and then just glared at the ref. The ref just shook his head and we played on. That’s a memory I’ll always treasure.

Dear Meyer Family:

I am sorry to learn of Mike's passing.  I will forever be grateful for his time, coaching moments,  and memories playing under Coach Meyer for four years at ONU.  He taught me how to play with passion, accomplishment, and finish with purpose.  I can confidently say that Coach Meyer's example and influence did much for me and many others.    A great coach is hard to find, but impossible to forget.  

 With deepest sympathy as we remember Mike.   I'm very sorry for your loss.

I had the pleasure of having Mike as a coach for a bit of time, and he was a great guy who truly cared about others and helping his players become not just better at their sport, but better people in life. Rest assured, his influence will continue on for future generations.

I worked with Mike while he as the Head Coach at Hiram College many years ago.  Over the years Mike would always come to the Hiram/DePauw football games and we would catch up on happenings and revisit old times.  I thoroughly enjoyed working with Mike and he was a friend as well as colleague.  He loved his family and his kids who spent many a day running around campus!  He was a passionate coach who loved his players and loved the game.  I imagine he is already on the coaching staff up above!

I am stunned by the loss…My heartfelt condolences to Brenda and the family.   Words cannot express your loss.

Mike will always be Coach Meyer to me. I spent a lot of time with Mike as a football player and coach. After all of my time spent with Coach I realized that he was an authentic, passionate man who cared deeply about people. 
Brenda and children, Mike often committed in the office at night when we were working that he needed to get home to his family. You were always on his mind and in his heart.

     Just wanted you to know that I'm lifting you and your family up to our Heavenly Father multiple times daily.  I enjoyed visiting with Mike once in a while at school when time would allow. We both had a lot of old war stories involving sports  that we shared with each other and  that involved a lot of laughing.  Please tell Jordan(on my top five lists of favorite students in 42 years of teaching) I'm thinking of him.
