

Shirley was born in Greencastle on April 5, 1936, the daughter of Fred N. and Hazel P. (Pelfrey) Thompson, and was a graduate of Bainbridge High School.
Mrs. Baker was a member of Bainbridge United Methodist Church, a State Officer with Eastern Star, and a Recipient of 2 Sagamore of the Wabash Awards. She worked as State Vice-Chairman for the Republican Party of Indiana for 13 years until her retirement in 2002. She was a commissioner for the BMV for 4 years, and head of personnel for the Indiana State Highway Department for 4 years. Prior to that, Shirley owned and operated Shirley’s Flower Shop in Bainbridge for 6 years.
Survivors include her four children, Jeretta Reynolds, (Doug), Joe Baker, (Rosie), Janet Lane, and Joyce Reed; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jeral S. Baker, and her granddaughter, Jaycie Kim Lane.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023, in Union Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Greg Hammond officiating.
