

Born December 30, 1944, in Greencastle, he was the son of Lawrence and Mildred (Gowen) Ames. He was a graduate of New Market High School “Class of 1963” and received an associate’s degree in agriculture from Vincennes University.
Vurlin was a lifetime farmer and Angus cattle breeder. He was a lifetime member of the American Angus Assn., Indiana Cattleman’s Assn., Indiana Angus Assn., past president of the West Central Angus Assn., lifetime member of the American Polled Hereford Assn., member of the American Chianina Assn., American Maine-Anjou Assn., Montgomery Co. 4-H junior leader, Crawfordsville Church of Christ Englewood Drive, and a charter member of the Crawfordsville Corvette Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and adopted sister Barbara Ames.
Vurlin is survived by his daughter Kapri Ames; granddaughter Elana Baker; adopted nephew Tevin Ames; and close family friends Jason & Lorna Richey.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, IN. Interment will follow at the Roselawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, IN.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
