

Funeral services, celebrating her life, will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel, with Rev. Robert Boyd officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park on Hwy. 29.
Born in Guilford County, December 8, 1923, to the late Austin Jackson and Annie Mae Stephens Jackson, Mrs. Burke was a member of Palm Street Christian Church for over 70 years. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, was President of the Women’s Fellowship, and until her recent illness, was a member of the choir. Annie Helen was a graduate of Greensboro High School, class of 1942. After graduation, she worked with Cone Mills for 34 ½ years before going to work with the Greensboro Police Department, retiring after 15 years of employment. She married the love of her life, Shelley L. Burke on September 22, 1951, and celebrated 35 years together prior to his death in November 1986. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harvey Jackson, C. Aubrey “Red” Jackson and Howard Jackson and an infant sister, Mary Austin.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ronald S. Burke of Greensboro; daughter, Cheryl B. Maddox and husband Mike of Bennettsville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
