Beatrice Teresa Doria, 96, of Jamestown, North Carolina passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. Bea was born in Staten Island, New York to her late parents, Joseph and Rose Doria. She was one of four children.
After graduating high school in Staten Island, she went to business school in New York City to learn secretarial skills and then became a successful secretary. While working, she took care of her parents in their later years before retiring and moving to Bayonne, New Jersey in April of 1992, after their passing. In January of 1993, the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey opened and Bea was one of the first volunteers. The Liberty Science Center’s mission is to “inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers and excite learners of all ages to the power, promise, and pure fun of science and technology”. Bea was a dedicated volunteer at the museum for over 10 years. She was even volunteer of the year one year, which she jokingly said was great because she didn’t have to pay for parking.
Bea later moved to Greensboro, North Carolina to be closer to her brother, Joseph and his family. She was an avid basketball fan and dog lover. She could often be found staying up late watching a game or snuggling one of the family dogs at holiday gatherings.
Those left to cherish her memory, include her brother, Joseph Doria and his wife, Nancy; sister-in-law, Olga Doria; nieces and nephews, Bob Doria and his wife Debbie, Tom Doria and his wife Kim, Joanne Burton, Chuck Paras and his wife, Peggy, Patti Williams and her husband, Chuck, Sue Joerms, David Doria and his wife, Susan; Joseph Doria and his wife, Mary, Jamie Swafford; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, who loved her dearly.
Bea was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rose Doria; brother, Anthony Doria; sister, Rose Paras and her husband, Bruno; and nephews, Allen Burton and Robert Joerms.
A heartfelt “Thank You” is extended to her niece, Jamie, who was always ready to lend a helping hand and provided her with exceptional care and companionship in recent years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. She will be laid to rest following the service in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation to the Liberty Science Center in her honor. Bea dedicated so many years of her life to supporting this nonprofit organization and the thousands of children who walked through the museum doors. We hope to continue her kind memory through the education and inspiration of these children. Online donations can be made here: https://tickets.lsc.org/donate/contribute1?ct=20.
