She was born February, 23, 1933 in Concord, NC the only child of Henry Clay Simmons and Eula Denny Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Truett A. Grant of 68 years. Betty graduated from High Point College with a BA in Education where she met her husband Truett Grant taking summer classes. They married April 4, 1953 moving to Durham for Truett to graduate from Duke and back to High Point for Betty to graduate from High Point College. They lived in Norfolk, VA where they welcomed daughter Pam, then moved to Martinsville where their second daughter Denny was born.
In Martinsville she opened “Betty’s Kindergarten” which started her teaching career. After moving to Greensboro she continued teaching but opened her own business, Posh! In 1973 a gift, accessories and collectible shop. It was a very successful business for over 45 years. She was known as the Beenie Baby Queen in the 90’s because she had the latest releases. Her business brought her happiness and lasting friendships in her life.
She was a lifetime member of Green Street Baptist Church. She had a very strong faith and loved her church family. She chaperoned youth trips and was very involved with her Sunday School class, enjoying worship and fellowship. Her favorite bible verse was always John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Her biggest accomplishments were her marriage of 68 years; her children, Pam Grant Oys (John) and Denny Leonard (Jerry); grandchildren, Austin Oys (Kylie), Kaysie Oys, Brooke Leonard, and Grant Leonard (fiancé Amber); and great-grandchildren, Charlie Oys Palmer and Olivia Grant Palmer.
She enjoyed so many things like collecting antiques, shopping, hosting dinner parties and social events. A member of Sedgefield Garden Club, Sedgefield Investors Club, and Green Street Baptist Church, her life was very full. She was the best mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, and will be remembered for her generosity, witty sense of humor, style and grace. She was always someone to go to for comfort, love, and advice.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Abby Young for being with the family during this journey the past 6 years and to Griswold for the care provided.
