Betty was born July 25, 1929 in Greensboro, the daughter of Debs and Frances Seawell White.
Betty was a bookkeeper for many years. She was a devout Christian who loved God and demonstrated her deep faith through the way she lived as well as sharing in music, playing piano and singing in the choir. She was a dedicated Nazarene and through the years served as a church officer, board member and Sunday school and vacation bible school superintendent. She enjoyed genealogy, doll collecting, and loved craftwork including quilting and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. J.H. Hodges; brothers, Ted and Walter White; maternal grandparents, Nuby and Ida Caudle Seawell, and paternal grandparents, W.H. and Ellen Stricklen White.
Her greatest joy was her family and she was blessed with many who will hold her dear and forever remember her loving nature and world’s best hugs. In addition to time spent with her Greensboro family, she loved spending time at the beach with her daughter, time in the mountains with her eldest son and his family, and time in Vermont with her youngest son and his family.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her sons Steve Foster (Cathy) of Black Mountain, NC; David Foster (Lillie) of Essex Junction, VT; daughters Joan Jordan (Scot) of Kure Beach, NC; Sue Trivette (Jay) of Pleasant Garden, NC; Gloria Murray (Paul) of High Point, NC and Debra Pearsall of Matthews, NC; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as her longtime friend and caregiver, Debra Pickard.
The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Betty’s name be made to New Horizon Church of the Nazarene, 4221 Randleman Rd., Greensboro, NC 27406 in honor of her lifelong connection to the church.
