Betty L. Everhart passed away peacefully July 24, 2024 with her daughter Betty Sue by her side. She was born July 21, 1926 in Salisbury, NC to Walter Landreth and Hazel Pickens. She was an only child. A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 28, in the Lineberry Center at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception at Betty's residence.
Due to her father’s work, she moved to Knoxville, TN and later to Lexington, NC where she met her husband Wayne Nifong Everhart. They were married from 1948 until his death in 2006.
Betty worked as a paralegal with Sim Delapp, attorney in Lexington NC who was legal counsel to the Republican party (1950-1964) and this began her passion for politics. She was an administrative assistant at the Center for Creative Leadership, Ketner & Schneider business consulting, and the United Methodist Church.
Betty had a love of traveling (she and Waynes’ first big trip in 1972 was to Russia), animals, painting portraits and scenery, music (opera, classical, big band musicals), cooking, watching movies, crossword puzzles, reading and her Christian faith. She was a lifelong learner and took many college classes and served faithfully in the Methodist church, playing the organ, singing, and ministering one on one.
She was a mother to three children: Frank Everhart-deceased, Betty Everhart Howard (Tim) and Andy Everhart-deceased, two grandchildren: Ali Howard McRoberts (David) and Jason McClellan Howard (Allison), and five great grandchildren: Winston Howard McRoberts, Luke Howard-deceased, Sutton Howard, Ollie Howard and newborn Josie Howard.
She also joins Frances Everhart Hill sister-in-law, and Wilburn Everhart brother-in-law, in heaven. Betty leaves behind many loving cousins and friends.
Betty had an infectious laugh, loved her family with all her heart, and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church (women’s circle # 3). She passed along a “don’t worry” outlook on life and was happy until her last day.
