Betty Branson Vernon Woody “Nana”, 93, passed away at home on June 30, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born May 30, 1932 to Jesse and Imia May Vernon. She lived in Greensboro, NC and was married 65 years to the late Rev. Lonnie Woody.
She is survived by her children, Danny Woody (Vickie), Becky Hicks (Jimmy), James Woody (Marie); Sisters: Shirley Dye (JC), and Louise Wade, Brother: Benny Vernon (Lois),
9 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, all whom she loved beyond measure.
Her love for God was #1. She was a pastor’s wife and loved helping Dad serve and do anything for people and was always by his side. She was a beloved babysitter of many children in her earlier years, and Betty was known to everyone as Nana. Her family was everything to her. At each holiday, she always cooked huge meals and enjoyed nothing more than watching her family gather. She would have an annual cookout/bonfire every fall, complete with her famous banana ice cream. Her love of flowers and growing tomatoes to share with everyone was beyond special to us.
Since the passing of her loving husband, she attended Living Waters Baptist Church faithfully while she was in good health, and adored the sweet people there.
Her celebration of a life well lived will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025 at11:00 a.m., at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407, with Rev. The family will receive friends and loved ones, on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the loving care given to Mom by the wonderful staff at AuthoraCare/Hospice. Flowers are welcome, or donations can be made to AuthoraCare, 914 Chapel Hill Rd, Burlington, NC 27215.
