Carole Faye Doss was born on January 25, 1944, in Tampa, Florida. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Lee College, where she met her future husband, Samuel. Sam and Carole married on July 3, 1965, and immediately relocated to Argentina where Sam opened a Bible school. Carole worked side-by-side with Sam by cooking for the Bible school students and using her music degree to provide music instruction. Both of Sam and Carole’s daughters were born in Argentina—Alicia in 1967 and Rebecca in 1970. In 1971 the family left Argentina to pursue higher education and then serve in various ministry roles for the next 50 years of their lives.
Carole was a constant and highly committed support to Sam throughout these 50 years of ministry which included Bible and theology professorships, pastoral assignments, missionary appointments, and the last 15 years multicultural directorship for Western North Carolina. Sam often commented that his ministry was successful due to Carole’s steadfast support behind the scenes.
Besides being a supportive wife, Carole was an amazing mother to Alicia and Rebecca, not only demonstrating unconditional love, but also using her many artistic talents to help decorate their homes and classrooms throughout the years. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing all of their clothes when they were younger. Her creative genes inspired her to tackle many artistic projects throughout the years. She was constantly learning and trying new things. As a grandmother, she loved her five grandchildren with all of her heart and always had time for them.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Alicia Serrano and Rebecca Ortiz, and her sons-in-law, Justin Serrano and Paul Ortiz; grandchildren, Mary and Kobe Serrano, George Serrano, Sam Ortiz, Miguel Serrano and Abby Ortiz; her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Dana Doss; along with other extended family, friends and loved ones.
