

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born Effie Catherine Lewis on July 23, 1923, in Faison, NC, to the late Henry Dewey Lewis and Janey Graham Lewis, she attended Louisburg College and East Carolina University. Catherine was a Charter member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Circle, and for years sang in the church choir. She taught school for several years and later became a homemaker after she married in 1948. Catherine lived for over 60 years in Greensboro, was active in scouting and the PTA, along with her many church activities. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, various crafts, and traveling with her friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph Davidson Tew; a daughter, Valerie Tew Kellam; two brothers; and two sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Jane Tew Keller (Edwin) and Adele Tew McKinney (Hugh); four granddaughters, Leslie Garner Trimmer (Daniel), Amy Garner Cook (Patrick), Katherine Keller Atkinson (Bradley), and Elizabeth Keller Mostrag (Mariusz); grandson, Stephen Joseph Dawson (Jackeline); six great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Lewis Taylor; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Tew Loflin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm Monday evening, February 17, 2014, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
