Cecil C. Bond Jr., 83, of Greensboro, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Vera Springs Assisted Living Facility. The Family would like to express its deepest appreciation for everyone at Heritage Greens and Vera Springs for their superior care and compassion in tending to his needs. A service to celebrate his life will be at 10 AM, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. The family will greet visitors beginning at 9 AM prior to the service.
Cecil was born on May 2, 1940 in Cassidy, West Virginia to Cecil and Peggy Bond. Not wanting a life in the coal mines, Cecil enlisted in the US Army as soon as he was eligible. Cecil excelled in the Army as a mechanic and rapidly advanced from enlisted to non-commissioned officer. He served two tours in Vietnam and was stationed at multiple posts in the US and Germany. He retired honorably from the Service after 23 years and reaching the rank of First Sargent, E-8.
During his first deployment to Germany he met his wife, Margarete H. Bond. Cecil and Margarete were happily married for 52 years. They enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing together. Cecil and Margarete also loved bowling and playing bingo together. Cecil was an avid pool player. He started each day with eggs and bacon and finished it with a glass of Canadian Club. He continued to enjoy playing bingo and watching old western shows on television after Margarete’s passing.
Cecil is survived by his son, Bob Bond and wife, Karen. Grandchildren Brian (wife, Sarah), Robert, Katie, Kevin and great grandchild, Brooks.
