Chalmers "Jack" Glenn Coe Jr., age 94, of Lewisville, North Carolina passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. Jack was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late Chalmus and Nellie Pearle Coe, Chalmers Glenn (Jack) Coe was a kind, selfless, compassionate man, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He touched the hearts of all who met him, was loved by all, and will be greatly missed. He was married to the love of his life Lucy Mills Coe for 71 years before her passing. His greatest joy was to spend time with her at their weekend retreat in the mountains, taking long walks and sitting by the river. You have never met a man more devoted to his family and was tireless in the pursuit of their happiness. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church of Winston Salem for over 50 years where he served as a Deacon and on many committees, taught Sunday school and showed by example what was in his heart. Although he had little free time until later in life, in addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed walks in the woods, fishing, painting, traveling, bird watching and fixing things by way of the “Jack Coe Special”. He also spent time coming up with new business ideas, many of which he set in motion. Jack was proud of his service in the United States Marine Corp and felt it helped shape the man he became. He went on to have a number of successful careers in his life, a bit of a “Jack of all trades”. He was a barber for over 25 years and established a number of barber shops in North Carolina and Vero Beach, Florida. He was a Real Estate Broker and Developer with Key Homes in Greensboro and Winston Salem, and Coe Properties as Broker and Contractor. As a hobby he started a small company building children’s playhouses. After retiring he went back to barbering until he finally retired at 82.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, William Coe; sister, Helen Gayden: wife, Lucy Coe; daughter, Janet Terry; and great granddaughter, Beah Betzing.
Those left to cherish his memory, remember his smiles and lessons he taught are daughter, Pamela McKeithen (husband John) of Nellysford, VA: son, Steve Coe (wife Donna) of Clemmons, NC; sister, Mary (Donnie) Mears of Reidsville, NC; 10 grandchildren, Meredith Jackson, Leland McKeithen, Megan McFall, Whitney Betzing, Bradley Coe, Bobbie Terry, Michelle Terry, Aaron Coe, Lucas Terry, Emily Terry; 19 great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Jack was especially grateful to be able to live out his life at home with the loving care of his hospice team from Trellis Supportive Care, his nurse Erin, music therapist CeCe and his grandson Lucas and his wife Jessica Terry. He cherished his time with all those who cared for him and was quick to tell you how thankful he was for their kindness.
