It is with sadness that we announce the death of Charlie on July 26, 2023. A native of Greensboro, he was born on April 25, 1941, and was 82 at his death. He is predeceased by parents Frances Marion Carlisle Wilson and Herbert Davis Wilson, brother Herbert Davis Wilson, Jr. and sister Helen Hamilton Wilson Carroll.
Charlie leaves his wife and love of his life of 58 years Sarah (Sally) Cochran Wilson; a great son Brian Scott Wilson, wife Kristi and grandsons Graham and Reid of Raleigh, NC; sweetheart daughter Ashton Brooke Wilson of Atlanta; sister Helen’s husband Bob Carroll of Hyco Lake, NC; aunt Barbara Anderson Crews of Greensboro; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Charlie was educated at Greensboro Senior High School, Duke University and the University of Georgia. Following graduation and the Army National Guard, Charlie worked in Richmond, VA and Washington, DC with AT&T. For most of his career he was in management with Fieldcrest Cannon in Greenville, Smithfield, Eden and Kannapolis, NC.
As Director of Benefits and Services with Fieldcrest for 27 years, Charlie served as President of one of the state’s largest credit unions. He also introduced a unique managed care healthcare plan to his company through which he negotiated with doctors and hospitals in five states. With this plan, he served on numerous hospital and advisory boards including ones in Eden, NC; Brentwood, TN; and Little Rock, AR. Charlie also ran a vending business, serving both Fieldcrest and outside companies with profits going to college scholarships for the children of employees. He also participated in union negotiations and investing for Fieldcrest.

Charlie had a love of sports all his life. As a kid, he played baseball for Little League through American Legion Ball. In high school he ran track, going twice to the state 4-A championship meet. He also played center on the 1959 Greensboro Senior High state 4-A championship basketball team. He then went to Duke to play basketball. After his second year, he transferred to Georgia to play. There he received and accepted an offer to play semi-pro ball for two years. After college he enjoyed golf and tennis. He teamed with a great partner in tennis and won a number of city and county championships. Over the years, he played golf at the various clubs to which he belonged, the last being Sedgefield Country Club. He wanted to thank his old golf buddies for all their good times through the years.
Per Charlie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
