

Dr. Patterson was born on Oct. 30, 1923 in Rowan County, the son of John M. and Edna Elizabeth Sloop Patterson. In WWII he served his country in the US Army. Following his first tour of duty, he graduated from Catawba College and enrolled in the University Of Maryland School Of Dentistry and upon graduation served his second tour with the US Army as a Dentist. He came to Guilford County and worked with the Health Department as a Dentist. He later opened his own practice on Summit Ave. and retired after 37 ½ years.
He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, serving and volunteered on various committees and boards at the church. He was active in the Boy Scouts for over 50 years and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1968. He was the Scout Master of Troop #143 at the church. During his time in scouting he was affectionately known as “Doc”. He was a member of the O’Henry Golden K Kiwanis Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandparent, brother and friend.
Dr. Patterson is survived by his loving wife of 63 years; Elizabeth of the home; children, Curtis Patterson Jr. and wife Marlene of Greensboro, NC, Jeffrey Patterson and wife Ellen of Summerfield, NC, Jan P. Johnson of Greensboro, NC, Kim Patterson of Summerville, SC, Jill Stewart and husband Doug of Whitsett, NC, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister, Pauline Clark of Charlotte, NC and Helen Patterson of Wilson, NC.
He was predeceased by his; brother, Dr. Grover Patterson; sisters, Gladys P. Lowry and Mabel P. Wilkinson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 11:00 am at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Pastor Tom Warren officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
