Darl Leonard Fowler passed away and faithfully entered into eternal life on August 31, 2017. He leaves behind family, friends and colleagues who were enriched by his life and lifted by his generous spirit. “Daddy Darl”, as he was affectionally known, was a man full of generosity, love for others, and a one-of-a-kind sense of humor.
Born in Kings Mountain, NC, the only child of James Sampson and Myrtle Hill Fowler. He graduated from Wesleyan Methodist College in Central South Carolina, Marion College in Indiana and UNC Law School. He practiced law in Greensboro for nearly 50 years, three of which were served as a District Court Judge. Throughout his years as a lawyer, he zealously helped his clients with their legal problems.
His community involvements were numerous and reflected his generous spirit. He served as Chair of the War Memorial Coliseum Commission, and member of the Guilford County Board of Elections. Darl was a friend and life-long supporter of Southern Wesleyan University where he served as trustee and alumni president.
Darl was ever-faithful and always passionate about the well-being of his family, the needs of his church and the harmonies of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He was consistently enthusiastic and whole-hearted in all of his endeavors; he lived simply, sincerely, and he genuinely followed the spirit and teaching of Christ.
Predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary Cockman Fowler; Darl is survived by his children: Darl Fowler Jr. and wife Kim, Sherry Alloway and husband Michael, Marcus Fowler and wife Lynn, and Larry Fowler and wife Ann, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 3 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Faith Wesleyan Church (4425 Rehobeth Church Road, Greensboro 27406). A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, September 4 at 1:00 pm at Christ Wesleyan Church (2400 South Holden Road, Greensboro 27407). The service will be officiated by Reverend Doctor Robert Black, Reverend Jerry Lumstom, Reverend Daryl Lewis, and Reverend Ken Klein.
