David Duarte

Pastor David Duarte, 54 years old, went to be with the Lord last Saturday, March 18, 2023. He was born in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico, on August 24, 1968, to the late Román Duarte Barceló and Alicia Leyva and was the youngest child. In 1994, David graduated from the Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary in San Antonio, Texas, where he met his wife Sandra A. Duarte, and they shared twenty-nine years of marriage. David received his Master in Divinity degree from International Theological Seminary.

David and Sandra moved to Greensboro, NC, in 1994, to start one of the first Hispanic Baptist churches in the area. David pastored a Hispanic congregation in Greensboro for twenty-nine years. His church family at Definition en Español will miss him tremendously. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, and two daughters, Adbeel and Analise, seven siblings, many nieces and nephews and extended family in Mexico and the United States.

David was a man of many talents and loved playing the guitar and singing, especially if he could do so while gathered around a bonfire with loved ones. Preparing the perfect cup of coffee was one of his great pleasures, often sharing it with loved ones and friends. He was a great man of God filled with humility, compassion and a great sense of humor. David was very easy to talk to and made friends wherever he went. He ministered to the Hispanic and immigrant communities in North Carolina and elsewhere, not only as a pastor, but also joining alongside local non-profit organizations to serve others. He enjoyed meeting regularly with pastors of other denominations for prayer and ministry partnerships. Most importantly, he shared the love of Jesus with everyone he met.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Definition Church, 1806 Merritt Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407. The family will receive friends at the church before the service between 12:30PM and 1:45PM.
