Born on September 11, 1942 in Greensboro, he was the oldest son of the late Woodrow and Essie Phelps. Woody served in the Greensboro Military Police of the North Carolina National Guard. Woody was retired as an electronic sales representative. He was an avid model train collector, enjoyed the beach and beach music, and enjoyed lighthouses. Woody also enjoyed landscaping, flowers and activities with his grandchildren.
Woody is survived by his wife, Esther Phelps; two sons, Dennis Phelps, Jr. and Patrick Phelps (Virginia); four grandchildren, Jade (Will), Abigail, Benjamin and Emerson; three brothers, Jimmy Phelps (Susan), Randy Phelps (Vickie) and Steve Phelps; and numerous other family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
