Born on March 2, 1951, in Greeensboro, NC to parents Dewey Lamont Webster and Darlene Rule Webster. Gene was a devoted Christian, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was a true reflection of his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.
A faithful member of Good Shepherd Church in Greensboro, Gene was known by many as a God-fearing prayer warrior who boldly shared his faith and never missed an opportunity to point others toward Christ. Whether through prayer, encouragement, wise counsel, or the simple gift of a miniature Jesus figurine, wooden prayer cross, or card, Gene made sure everyone he encountered knew about the love of Jesus.
Gene retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro after 39 years of dedicated service. Outside of work, he was a gifted carpenter who could build just about anything and found joy in creating unique handcrafted pieces for those he loved. Gene was also an avid and accomplished bowler who spent many years competing in local leagues, where he created lasting memories bowling alongside family members and dear friends. The lanes were one of the many places his competitive spirit, laughter, and love for fellowship shined brightest.
He treasured his family above all else. Few things brought him greater happiness than watching his children and grandchildren play sports and cheering them on from the sidelines. He was also a passionate fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Duke Blue Devils Men’s basketball.
Gene never met a stranger. His kindness, humility, and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a non-judgmental man who listened with compassion, prayed without hesitation, and sought the Lord’s wisdom before offering guidance. His presence brought comfort, his prayers brought peace, and his life pointed countless people toward Christ.
He is survived by his loving children: Jeffrey Webster, Haven Hall, and Heidi Atkins; his cherished grandchildren: Caleb Webster, Makenzie Webster, Gracyn Hall, Mollie Hall, Lanie Hall, Hunter Atkins, Bryson Atkins, Baylee Atkins, and Levi Atkins; his sister, Cheryl Oakley and brother-in-law Bob; his nieces, Kathy (Frank) Harrelson and Ginger "Poo" (Scott) Grossman; along with many other beloved extended family members and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Good Shepherd Church, 4453 Sumner Church Road
Greensboro, NC.
Though Gene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, his family finds peace in knowing he is now whole, healed, and home with his Savior—hearing the words,
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Gene’s two favorite charities: St. Jude Children’s Hospital or ASPC.
