Donald Lee Bowden

Donald (Don) Lee Bowden entered the eternal Kingdom of Heaven on November 08, 2014 at the age of 93. He was born June 19, 1921 in Osceola, MO and was the son of the late Rev. Robert Emmett Bowden and Alta Goode.

He leaves behind his wife of 69-years, Dorothy Irene Oates, children Donald Lee Bowden Jr. of Chatham, VA, Kathryn Sheffield of Vanceboro, NC, and Carol Hodgin of The Woodlands, TX; along with and sister LaVaughn Goss of Roswell, NM. He was predeceased by his beloved sons, James Robert (Bob) Bowden and David Oates Bowden, and brother Hollace Bowden.

Don was a proud veteran of WWII and member of the Army Air Corp Ordinance Department 86th Bomb Squadron. His tour of duty from 1942-45 included Algeria French Morocco, Tunisia, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, North Apennines, PO Valley and Southern France. He was awarded the Good Conduct, American Campaign, European-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign, and WWII Victory medals of Honor.

Don loved his country and family, was a faithful provider to his wife and children, a loyal choir member of First Baptist Church Greensboro, and a later member of Trinity Church of Greensboro. He was a trombonist with the Greensboro Concert Band, Razz-Ma-Tazz Music Review Company, and member of Greensboro Lyric Theater. He served as interim choir director at the Church of God - Greensboro, Magnolia Street Baptist, College Park Baptist, and Parkway Baptist churches. He also served as music director for the UNC-G Baptist Student Union.

The family wishes to thank Hospice Home of High Point for their exceptional care. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 14th from 7:00-8:30pm at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15th at 11:00am, Trinity Church, 5200 West Friendly Ave., Greensboro. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greensboro.
