Doris M. Porter

Funeral services will be held today, Friday, September 17, 2010 at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm. The interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Doris was born in Reidsville, NC to the late William and Agnes May Mitchell. She attended Guilford College and University of North Carolina. She was a corporate secretary for W. F. Fancourt and taught painting classes nationwide. She was a member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church and the Laws Parks Sunday School class.

She was the Past Grand Royal Matron in the Order of Amaranth, Past Worthy Matron of Greensboro Chapter 14, High Point Chapter 106, Guilford Chapter 141, Past Worthy High Priestess of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Smiley Porter; daughter, Karen LaVonne Stanley; and siblings Jeanette, Obie, Tony, Ray, Jessie, and Richard.

Doris is survived by two sons, John Alexander Porter of Greensboro and Kevin Mitchell Porter of San Diego, CA; one niece Edith Meade of Pittsboro, NC; nephew Bobby Mitchell of Greensboro, NC.

Memorial may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
