Doug is survived by his loving mother, Juanita; brothers, Benny (Deborah) and Joel (Cherie); sisters, Debra Fenton (John) and Teri Moss (Moose); daughter, Shannon Taylor (Justin); beloved granddaughter, MacKenzie Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Smith.
Doug deeply cherished his family, faith, country, and friends. He dedicated over 40 years of his life to a successful career with Asplundh Tree Company, where he started as a tree cutter with a chainsaw in hand and worked his way up to Vice President. After retiring, Doug enjoyed golfing, playing music, traveling, and making memories with those he loved most. A kindhearted and loving man, Doug never met a stranger. His warmth and generosity touched the lives of countless people, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be profoundly missed.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, located at 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401. A celebration of Doug’s life will be announced at a later date.
