Eddie was born on September 29, 1942 in Greensboro, N. C. He attended Bessemer High School through his senior year and graduated in 1964 from UNC, Chapel Hill, with a degree in Business Administration. He and Nancy Kinney Land, his high school sweetheart, were married June 30, 1961. Growing up he was a member of Bessemer Methodist Church. Later in his life he joined St. Pius X Catholic Church. Eddie once said "Joining the Catholic Church was the best thing I have ever done".
Eddie worked for Jefferson Standard Life Ins. Co. from 1964 to 1969 after which he worked for C.E. Land, Inc. until 1974. He started Eddie Land Masonry Contr., Inc. in 1974 which he owned and operated until his death, and since 2006 he secured and ran masonry projects under Eddie Land, Inc. until he retired.
He truly loved working in the masonry industry. During his 50 years in the masonry field he successfully completed numerous projects throughout the Triad and Southern Virginia. Eddie was a humble, low-keyed man who loved the challenge of a complex masonry project. To him, the more complicated the better. He was deeply saddened that he had to retire April, 2018 due to health issues.
Eddie was a true outdoorsman. He loved golf, fishing, hunting or just taking a walk through the woods. On his Gibsonville farms he raised soybeans, wheat, corn, hay and cotton and was so proud of his award-winning Polled Hereford cattle. During the winter months, he loved to spend Saturdays traveling to auctions with his friends.
He is predeceased by his mother, Hazel Wilson Land, whom he adored, and father, Cleo Land. Eddie was the oldest of five children. Siblings are Jeanne, Terri, Jane and Alan.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy; daughter, Michelle Savage, Scott Savage, granddaughters and the joy of his life, Sarah and Mollie Savage; Mother-in-Law, Frances Oakes; brother-in —law, Victor Kinney and wife, Martha; sister-in-law, Marie Oakes; nieces, Kelly Martin, Andrea Cranford and husband, Daniel; great nephew and nieces, Skyler, Kierstin and Chloe ( his fishing buddy); closest friend, Buddy Smith and numerous other friends and relatives.
Visitation will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Monday, June 18 at 2210 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M. followed by an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial and then lunch.
